Hi there! I’m Fanelly and I am the woman behind Fanelly Voyage.
I have decided to create this blog for various reasons, the main ones being to share my travel experiences with friends and family as well as to have that one place where I can put my thoughts, photographies and videos all together. But I also have wider, less personal missions. I’d like to share with the world what a beautiful rock we live on, inspire travelers to carefully discover the roads less traveled and hopefully convince my readers to keep a respectful and open-minded approach to wandering the world.
MY STORY
Globetrotter and citizen of the world
At the time I am writing these words, I am a 27 year old French woman who has lived mid to long term in 5 different countries: France (obviously!), the United States, Mexico, Ireland.
I first left my home country at the age of 17 to become a High School Exchange Student for a full academic year in a small town Iowa, USA. For as long as I could remember, this was an experience that I’ve always wanted to live, but it took a bit of convincing my parents this wasn’t just an idea on the whim. After about 4-5 years hearing me talk and making plans about it, they realized this wasn’t a crazy phase and they gave me the opportunity to live my dream. Little did they know this would only be the beginning of my obsession with living and travelling abroad.
After that year in the US, I made it my life’s mission to seize every opportunity to go and live abroad. And this is how, as part of my Bachelor’s degree, I ended up living the best 6 months of my life in Mexico. This is also why, right out of my Master’s degree, I left to work in Ireland for a good 3 years. These two experiences allowed me to discover countries I knew very little about, but also to meet people from all over the planet, with very different backgrounds and views on the world. And that was just eye-opening on so many levels.
You got it by now, so far I have mostly slow traveled, where I completely immersed myself in a culture to get the most out of the place I was visiting. I have now lived in 3 countries that weren’t my own, and will probably live in 1 or 2 others the same way before I settle down in one place for good. But although I am hooked to this lifestyle and would like to inspire people to try it, I am convinced that traveling on a shorter period is just as beneficial as long as we don’t act like mindless tourists and research the hidden gems or try to interact with locals.
My goal with this blog is to inspire as many of you to travel, either or both ways, while being adventurous and respectful of our environment at the same time. I do not pretend to have all the answers. Nor to know everything there is to see or do in a country. I mean, even after living 3 years in Ireland there are still so many incredible landscapes and things I didn’t get to experience. But I will do my best to guide you to the most amazing places I’ve had the chance to see by sharing itineraries, tips, bucket lists and some of my thoughts on travel related topics.
